Day #104

This post is co-authored by Alice and Kim. Here's Alice:

Today we woke up too early for New Year's Day because we had to check out of the Paris hostel. Kim lost her passport, so we had a stressful few minutes while she looked for it. Fortunately, someone turned it in at the front desk. I had to play mom and make her give me an extra copy. (Kim edit: don't worry everyone, it's very safe now in a place where no one will find it ever except obviously me)

The wifi wasn't working at the hostel, so we headed to the airport a little early. Three trains and too few signs later, we flew to Budapest. There were many cranky French people on the flight. I felt kind of bad for the flight attendants because they were giving them such a hard time.

Budapest is cold and dry; it feels like home! France and the UK have been much warmer and more humid. We had an interesting experience getting Hungarian forints from the ATM at the airport. The buttons didn't match up with what was on the touchscreen, so after many tries, we finally got a random amount of money out.

(Kim edit: this is especially exciting because Hungary is the first country with a good exchange rate for American dollars. Also, this is what the money looked like; we felt really, really rich)

Much to my relief, most people seem to speak very good English here. Hungarian is a puzzling language. We're ending our first night in Budapest with pizza and a wonderful (Kim edit: FREE) glass of white wine. Tomorrow we get to explore the city!

Kim edit: YAY!!
